Our Sourcing Principles

Tony's Open Chain leads by example

Tony's Open Chain leads by example through Tony's 5 Sourcing Principles. Our farmer-first approach prioritises human rights and environmental protection, aiming to reverse institutionalised inequality. By combining these 5 Sourcing Principles – traceability, higher prices, long-term commitments, strong farmer partnerships, and enhanced quality and productivity – Tony's Open Chain seeks to end structural poverty and establish more equitable relationships with cocoa cooperatives in Ghana and Côte d'Ivoire.

Traceable Cocoa BeansTraceable sourcing is critical to taking accountability within your supply chain, and Tony’s Open Chain offers this across three levels: operational, environmental and social.
A higher priceWe pay a Living Income Reference Price, including applicable certification premiums, for all beans sourced.
The Long-TermWe establish long-term commitments with both Mission Allies and partner cooperatives to reach greater income stability for farmers
Strong FarmersWe promote professional farming cooperatives and farms, giving the farmers and their self-organized groups the power to structurally change inequality.
Quality and ProductivityWe help farmers to professionalise by investing in agricultural knowledge and skills, as well as organising labour brigades.
